Weekly Match Report
1998s have just came back from a highly succesful tournament in Blackpool.
We had two age groups as the English go on school ages.
Unders 10s (aug97- July 98)
Played 6 , won 2 , drew 2, lost 2 (both 1-0).
The team was a mixture of Mardona / Pele players. They all performed very well over the weekend remaining undeafted on the Saturday . The Sunday tireness played its part as did playing against older boys. The team stuck to their task and won convincly in the last game 3-1.The winners of this age group drew with the lads in the group game so they can all hold their heads up high after a good hard worker weekend. Well done.
Weekend Highlight : - Maculay Jarret made a unbelievable save . The forward thought he was tapping it into a empty net as MJ was stuck at the other end of the goals, as the guy ran away to celebrate his " goal" somehow MJ managed to fling himself the other way and held onto the ball making it the best save this season. Superb work MJ.
Under 9s (Aug 98s - Jul 99)
Played 6 , won 5, drew 1. scored 18, conceded 2.
final : Hillfield Swifts 3 vs Monkton 0
This again was half Pele half Maradona players who gelled brillantly all weekend working very hard for each other and playing some outstanding football.
To stay unbeaten over the weekend is some achievement. To go on and win the final 3-0 even Carlsberg couldnt top that....
Moment of weekend: Some real good indivual performances throughout this team BUT the highlight was when the final whistle, to see the JOY all over their SMILING faces made my weekend..
I personally want to thank all the parents who came on the trip who made this weekend one of the best in Hillfields history. (still think i was cheated playing cards on the bus...)
Off course the weekend would not have been possible for one person.
Michelle thanks once more for organsing this trip from start to finish.
Weekend results:
Maradona 98s
Hillfield Swifts 98s 4 vs Dundedin 1
Pele 98s
Liberton 0 vs Hillfield Swifts 98s 3
Well done to both teams for good performances over the weekend.
Keep up the good work.

2008 Update
Quick catch up on how the season is now going in 2008 for both pele and maradona 1998 team's.Maradona
We have a couple new players join us since January who hopefully help the maradona team improve results. Damie and Paul have been working hard with all the boys and our happy the general standard of play. The games played against Musselburgh and Fernieside were hard as t they had very good sides but the boys stuck to their tasks and overall played some good football in places. The game versus Hunterfield ended in a 3-2 defeat but by no means was a defeat as they all stuck to their tasks and again played really well and on another day the result might have been different. The Maradona team due to Edinburgh easter holidays have missed 2 games which am sure they would have done well in. They have couple of home games coming up which hopefully be good news to them (and parents ) and they can put on some great performances at Ballast Bank.
Pele
The Pele have been playing some great football at times with the scorelines not always finishing as we hoped. If you ever need a score draw on the footy coupon we are that team.
A game against a very good Pentland panthers ended in narrow defeat with 2 late goals but the boys played some outstanidng passing football ont he astro turf.
They then came up against a keeper from Musselburgh who pulled of 6-7 top class saves keeping his team in the game. Their was a couple of small laspes in our play which led to giving away goals this the team needs to keep working on. Both teams play some good football and i was happy with our hard working comeback from 3-1 down to 3-3.
This team has been working hard but they all know on any day in this league if you dont work as a team you will get beat.Edinburgh City rolled up their sleeves from the off and quite rightly were 4-0 up before our team started. The boys only played for 10mins at the end and we pointed out they just cant do that in any game and expect to win. This was a disppointment as they had been doing really well, well done Edin City who showed hard work and good play will give you rewards.
The next two games however have been outstanding by all players. The work rate has been lifted and the rewards have came in. Leith we were 2-0 down by cracking goals a wee pep talk to the players to tell them they were playing well turned the game on its head to 4-2 to us.The boys could or should have had some more goals but again we hit a keeper on form. The game ended when they never cleared a corner and from kick off another cracking goal made it 4-4. big performance improvement here but we still need to work on stopping giving away goals.
The first part off a double header versus Salvesen saw us have our best away win in the Edinburgh league (9-1). Lee was able to tell me that all players put in a great performance , worked hard, passed well and finished superbly.
A couple hard games coming up will show us how far we have progresses in 2008. All i can say keep listening at training and working hard and the coaches will be happy.
The cost off football's is not cheap especially match balls so we like to thank our recent donation off 6 match balls from KM Pilates (www.kmpilates.co.uk) . Kelly and Barry thanks for that.
Thats all for now i would like to thank all the parents for their part in making this a great club to work for we appreciate your support to the boys.
Please feel free to bring family, friends along to all our games the more support the better the kids will play.
Not doing anything on a sunday morning at 10am come down to Ballast Bank and support Hillfield Swifts.
See You There
